Adoption fees are necessary to help us cover vetting costs for our rescued animals. We reserve the right to adjust adoption fees on our animals per our discretion. Each pet profile will specify the animal’s individual adoption fee.
We would greatly appreciate a small donation of $5 to ensure that your application is processed and guarantee a response is provided. This donation fee is suggested as we are seeking applicants that are serious about adopting. The donation can be submitted here: Application Donation. The application donation is established to ensure that potential adopters are reading through the requirements for the animal they are interested in, and that their environment is a potential good fit for the animal.
Our rescue is comprised of volunteers and the approval process is very involved and requires that we perform vet checks on current/past animals, personal reference checks, verify home ownership or review the pet addendum for a rental/lease property, and home-checks which all take time to complete. Therefore we are expecting that those who apply are serious about adopting and fully read the pet’s profile before submitting an application. Applications may take up to 72 hours to process.
Applications are kept for 3 months, so once you complete an application once it can still be used to apply towards another dog within the rescue during that 3 month time period.

Adoption Policy:
- Our primary adoption area is within the state of Michigan.
- Applications must be completed and approved prior to meeting or adopting an animal.
- You must be 18 years or older to adopt.
- All members of the family must be present in order to adopt. We want to make sure it’s a good fit for everyone!
- The applicant must be willing to undergo reference checks and a visit to the home where the dog will reside.
- Renters must provide a copy of their lease (including pet policy).
- All current pets must be spayed/neutered and up to date on preventative care. All dogs must have current Distemper and Rabies vaccinations, be heartworm tested and receiving heartworm prevention and felines must have a current Rabies vaccine.
- A vet reference is required on all previous and current pets.
- We do NOT hold pets. If you wish to adopt and have vacation plans, or are moving to a new home at a future date, or you are unable to commit to adopting within a reasonable period of time then it is best if you just wait to apply until you are ready and able to adopt.
What to expect after you apply:
- Please contact your vet office and provide to release vet records so that we can perform a vet check. Many vet offices will require approval before releasing information. In order to speed up the approval process, please contact your vet office and let them know that “Furever Tails Animal Rescue” will be calling to perform a vet check and you approve the release of information. We cannot make multiple calls to vet offices, so if permission has not been provided we will be unable to approve the application.
- Our approval process can take up to 5 business days to complete. There are many aspects to approving the application: vet check, personal reference check, own/lease/rent verification and home checks. Then the foster family is provided with an opportunity to provide their opinion on how they feel about the application. Please be patient!
- Approved applications will receive a response within 5 business days. We may have additional questions for you so please monitor your inbox in case we are looking for further answers.
- Incomplete applications will NOT be approved.
What to expect at a meet-and-greet:
- Meet-and-greets are hosted at the foster home of the animal.
- Families must bring all minor children in the home, all decision making adults must be present, and any dogs currently residing in the home.
- The foster parent will assist with conducting a control dog-to-dog introduction to observe the interaction of the dogs. A positive outcome and successful dog-to-dog must occur for an adoption to be approved.
- The foster parent will provide an ultimate decision on whether they believe the meet-and-greet will prove to end in a successful, lifelong adoption. Our fosters have undergone training that help guide them in the decision making process, and these fosters animals are like family to them so they only want what is best for the animal.
- Every adopter is provided with a 2-week trial adoption period. This allows the family to test the adoption out in their own home to ensure that this will be a lifelong commitment. During the 2-week trial if the family feels that the adoption is not a good fit then they are required to contact the foster parent to arrange a time to return the pet to their original foster home. They will then be refunded their adoption fee.
- Approved applicants are given 24 hours to make a decision from the time they meet the pet that they are interested in. It is not fair for these animals to remain in foster care for an unnecessary extended period of time.
- An adoption contract is required to be signed at the time of adoption, and the adopter is required to pay the adoption fee. Adoption Fees can be paid via PayPal, Venmo, Check or Cash.
- Adopters will be provided with a sample of the food the pet is currently eating, along with any medication if applicable. Adopters are responsible for bringing a collar/leash or they will be provided with a slip lead.
